Araria district is one of the district of Bihar State in India, and Araria town is the administrative headquarters of Araria district. Araria district is a part of Purnia division.
Araria as a district was formed in January 1990 as one of the administrative districts of under Purnia Division. During the British period, the area where one Mr. Forbes’s Bungalow was located was called “Residential Area”, which people called as R. Area. Over a period of time, R. Area acquired the pronunciation “Arariya”. Renu ji (Phanishwar Nath ‘Renu’, legendary novelist and story writer, belonged to Araria.
Infrastructure:- Araria is connected with the other districts of Bihar by bus and railways. The nearest railway station is Araria Court and Araria(R.S) and the nearest air port is at Bagdogra. Araria is also accessible to other parts of India by railways via Katihar which is a big and important junction.
Transportation:- Both rail and road links are available. Araria contains two bus terminals one at “Zero Mile” and second in the city. Buses for most of the districts of Bihar are available as well as for internal villages and blocks too. NH 57 runs through the district.
Railways is in the form of Broad-gauge. Which is newly built. This broad gauge service has been inaugurated by Union Railway Minister Mr.Laloo Prasad Yadav on 5 June 2008. Now tri-weekly trains are available from Jogbani to Kolkata via Katihar. Katihar is a big and important junction from there trains to all important cities of India are available.
